3 Tips to Converting a Tub to a Shower

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Converting a bathtub into a shower is not as difficult as you may think. If you don’t use your bathtub for bathing, why not convert your old bathtub into a walk in shower? Here are 3 tips on converting a tub to a shower.

Determine Spacing & Placement
A bathtub to shower conversion is easiest when you situate your new open shower in the space left behind by your bathtub, since your drain lines and water supply will already be in place. Moving plumbing can add significant cost to the project, plus require bringing in a plumber.

Spacing Required for a Walk In Shower:

  • At least 30 inches by 30 inches of floor space.
  • At least 80 inches in height.
  • At least 15 inches between the side of the toilet and the shower wall.
  • Or at least 21 inches between the front of the toilet and the shower wall.
  • If you plan to install a swinging door, make sure to account for the swing. Source: BudgetDumpster

Waterproofing and Drainage
Properly sealing the shower floor from water leaks will help protect your home from problems associated with water leaks, like wood rot, drywall damage and mold. Hot mops are prepared onsite and are the best way to waterproof the shower pan.

A standard drain may not be sufficient to stand the test of time. To ensure your shower remodel lasts for many years, select a high quality and durable drain. Source: Angieslist

Which Type of Shower Works Best for Your Space?
Now that you have some ideas about what you want your shower to look like, you’ll want to consider the best type of shower to install in your bathroom.

Shower stalls
All-in-one shower stalls that can be added to an existing tub-sized space can make your job easier. Many options exist with built-in ledges and shelving; some even have seating areas. The stalls typically include a curb to contain water and the option of installing any type of door you wish — or even just using a curtain.

Tiled shower curbs
A tiled shower created in the existing wall space usually necessitates a curb or ledge that will hold the door and keep the water inside the shower. The curb should be tall enough to contain moisture and short enough to step over easily. Curbs should also be polished and have smooth edges to reduce injury.

Curbless showers
Showers with no lip to contain the water make it much easier to access the shower, especially for the elderly or disabled. But beyond that, curbless showers offer a particular open look that is appealing and modern. The curbless style can also save you a little space if you’re making the most of a small area.

The issue with a curbless shower, of course, is the difficulty of containing the water. This problem can be minimized by choosing a shower screen — essentially, a pivoting glass door — and a directed showerhead that keeps the flow of water moving away from the rest of the bathroom. Q & A: How Do I Use My Steam Bath For The First Time

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

So, you’ve taken the plunge (so to speak) and purchased your very own steam shower. Perhaps you’ve opted for a pre-fabricated, modular type that’s ready to use as soon as the pieces are properly secured and sealed. Or, perhaps you’ve splurged on a complete custom steam room. Whichever course you’ve followed, you can now have a personal spa experience any time you feel like it.

Even though you have the user instructions that came with the steam shower unit, and advice from either our support technicians or your own contractor, you may be wondering how exactly you should use your steam shower for the first time.

Best tips for getting most enjoyment out of steam shower.

Begin by ensuring that your body temperature is at room temperature or cooler. Then, turn on the steam function. Sit back on the bench and soak up the warm steam for no more than 30 minutes. Afterwards, you can cool off by stepping out of the steam shower unit. Or, you can stand under the cool spray of the water. The key to enjoying the whole experience is to move gradually from one step to the other. Don’t shock your system by jumping into hot steam or standing under cold water at the end.

combo steam shower and bathtub

Did you opt for a combination steam shower-whirlpool tub? Lucky you! You have the option of switching at will between a relaxing steam shower and soaking in a luxury steam bath. As with the steam shower, make sure your body is not already too warm before slipping into the whirlpool tub. The key is to always make sure that you don’t overtax your circulation. “Used properly, a steam bath will help to overcome the stresses of everyday life, to relax and recover, and to gain new strength and improve general physical and mental well being” .

Do you have questions about how to use your steam shower or whirlpool tub? Ask us!

4 Tips on Bringing Nature into the Bathroom

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Regardless of the season, incorporating nature into the bathroom can give it a warm, relaxing ambiance everyone is longing for. To do this, follow the following tips:

Add a bloom
The natural, varied colours of even a single living bloom will warm up a pale bathroom scheme a treat. We so often save fresh flowers for our more public rooms, but why not grab one flower from a bunch destined for the living room and display it in your bathroom. Source: Houzz

Waterfall showers
There is just something undeniably soothing about listening to the sound of a gushing waterfall. It makes you feel one with nature. You can replicate that by installing a waterfall shower in your bathroom.

Fusing a waterfall shower with abundant tropical greenery also creates the kind of environment you’d find in a luxurious spa hotel – or the Amazon rainforest. It’s so lush, you’ll feel like an Amazonian goddess every time you take a shower. Source: LifestyleAsia

Use natural materials
Another strategy is to use materials such as stone or wood which are normally found outdoors and make them a part of your home’s interior décor. Make sure they stand out. For example, a stone washbasin in the bathroom would be a really interesting feature. Source: Homedit

Pebble Garden under the sink
A pebble garden is simple to create and easy on the pocket. Forget vitrified tiles and go for some pebble love on the floor; so natural yet so quirky! A tiny area of the floor covered with pebbles right under the sink keeps it subtle; just in case you do not like the drastic impact that an entire pebble floor has on a room (though some prefer that too). Source: Homify

PANTHÈRE DE CARTIER

_DSC1827

Hello everyone, hope you are all having an absolutely beautiful week. I am back here today to share with you some brand new content that I’ve had the tremendous pleasure creating a few weeks ago while in Los Angeles with Cartier for the launch of one of their newest icons. So as part of a collaboration with the emblematic jewelry house, I am more than delighted to share with you today a new editorial that Cibelle and I got to work together on, introducing you Cartier’s new iconic time piece : La Panthère de Cartier.

I find the idea of a watch being one of the most timeless objects a person can own so curious and poetic… A timeless time piece. Time seems to be one of the few things reattaching us endlessly to the idea of reality. The luckiest ones of us got passed on from generation to generation a watch that our mothers, grand mothers or fathers used to carry. And while the family keeps growing, these objects remain precious treasures to cherish for the ones after us. And although technology keeps improving, the idea we have of time still remains the same carrying us through life like a river’s steady stream.

Owning a watch of such symbolism, of such quality and timeless elegance feels almost like always having a link back to reality around the wrist, a reminder that no matter where we are, time keeps moving, time heals, time grows, time cleans. No matter what happens, time is on our side even though we might want to stop it from running so quickly. Time passing is the nature of hope, of evolution, of life. It is the continuation of the story, of all the stories, the ones of now and the ones of after. And as the seconds, minutes, hours keep passing by, new words to our stories are being added. Nothing seems to be a certainty, but time, time will always be and will always keep going forcing us to step forward with it.

To accompany this shoot, here is a little poem from one of my favorite writers Rainer Maria Rilke (highly recommend reading Letters to a Young Poet) called Panther. Enjoy and speak to you all very soon. K.

His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.

As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.

Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly–. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

Reinvent Your Bathroom This Summer

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Summer is all about spending time outdoors—going to beaches, hanging out at the park, or just casually strolling around the area. Although you can’t spend 100% of your time outdoors, you can bring these summer vibes inside your home. Follow these tips in order to reinvent your bathroom this summer:

Clear out the clutter
Possibly the simplest and cheapest way to refresh your bathroom is with an old fashioned deep clean and declutter. Clear the vanity benchtop of the items that inevitably find their way there, put in some elbow grease to make your surfaces sparkle and, for the really committed, declutter your bathroom cabinets of unused or out-of-date products. To maintain a clear and calm bathroom, return only the absolute essentials to the benchtop. Source: Houzz

Choose a colour scheme
Believe it or not, the colours you use in a room contribute to the mood and atmosphere it creates. Choose a calming, soothing colour scheme to make your bathroom a place of relaxation.

Then, find simple ways to add it to your bathroom. For example, paint just one wall as an accent wall and as a backdrop for a shelf full of accessories. Other ways to add colour include bringing in soft rugs, plants, flowers, shower curtains, towels and accessories that all work together with the same colour scheme. Source: HSS

Recycle and gather
An easy way to add a touch of summer into the home would be to repurpose old mason jars and turn it into receptacles for dried twigs and seashells. Walk around your garden and look for small branches that you can use. Clean each with a damp cloth and arrange them in jar. If you can’t find the shells that you’ve collected from your last beach trip, work with smooth stones instead! Your finished project would look perfect on your bathroom counter. Source: RealLiving

Upgrade your tub
Builder-grade bathtubs are fine, but they’re certainly not luxurious. Try a clawfoot or gorgeous soaking tub for the ultimate relaxation experience. Source: HGTV

4 Bathroom Emergencies That Require Professional Help

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

A plumbing emergency can occur at any time and cause devastating damage that can be extremely

costly to repair. Plumbing emergencies range from benign ones like frozen pipes or small leaks to emergencies that can wreak havoc in your home like gas leaks or broken sewer lines. The worst thing is that these emergencies could prove harmful or even fatal to your family.

Every homeowner needs to have the basic tools to handle a plumbing emergency. However, some emergencies are better left to professional, even if you are a master DIY-er. While you might be able to handle the immediate emergency, the underlying cause is sometimes difficult to detect. These underlying issues, if left unchecked, could cause even more harm in the future.

This is why you should leave some plumbing emergencies to experienced companies like Plumbing Plus. The most serious emergencies that require a professional with the right tools and years of experience are:

Burst Pipes

Compared to the other emergencies on this list, burst pipes might seem like something trivial. However, burst pipes could cause some serious damage to your home. But before you call in the pros, make sure to close the main water valve to prevent the water from causing even more damage. If you don’t know where your main valve is located, call a plumber immediately. Also, if you don’t know where your valves are and what they do, ask a plumber to label them. You never know when you might need to shut the water supply again.

Gas Leaks

The most obvious example of a plumbing emergency best left to a professional is a gas leak. You cannot 4 Bathroom Emergencies That Require Professional Helpmiss a gas leak, as the unpleasant, unique odor is a dead giveaway. If you feel the smell of gas immediately leave your house and call an emergency plumber. A gas leak could result in poisoning, death and serious damage to your home. After you’ve evacuated the house make sure to close the main gas valve if you can safely reach it and leave the rest to a skilled plumber.

This emergency could cause serious problems in the winter, especially if you live with children, seniors or an ill individual. Before you look for professional help check if the thermostat or the burner are switched off, as homeowners often overlook these common issues. Next, check if the circuit breaker shorted out. If it did, resetting it will fix your emergency. Finally, check if there’s enough liquid in the oil tank if your heater uses oil. If nothing helps, there’s nothing you can do other than call in a professional.

Clogged Drain

When the water won’t pass through your tub, toilet or sink, you are likely dealing with a clogged drain. While partial clogs can be dealt with using a plunger, more serious ones may require an expert with the right tools. This is especially true if you are experiencing this issue on a regular basis. Using commercial cleaners can help but at a cost. Commercial cleaners can wreak serious havoc on your pipes, and cause an even more serious issue. Needless to say, a clogged drain can seriously endanger your family’s health.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Shower Panels vs Shower Systems

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

A shower is a great way to relax after a long day. It allows you to get rid of the dirt and grime that you have accumulated throughout the day and rest easy at night knowing that you are clean and refreshed. As such, many people believe that having a great set of shower accessories is ideal.

The different types of showers and shower accessories have greatly evolved over the years. In the old days, showers consist of a long tube attached to an upright stand and a faucet. Water would come out from the tube and onto the person’s bod. Today, showers vary from shower panels to shower systems.

These two types of showers have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a breakdown for both.

Shower Panels advantages

Shower Panels Advantages:

They’re easy to installShower panels can be easily removed and attached to any regular water supply and bathroom. It comes with easy to install bolts and screws and instructions to help you add them to your shower.

They come in many designs – the different shower panel design can fit any bathroom design. They come in sleek chrome and so much more. Choose from minimalist designs to a more elaborate design.

They do not take up a lot of space – The compact design of a shower panel makes it easy to install and remove.  It is also very easy to transport should you need to take it with you to a new apartment. It is perfect for small bathrooms.

Shower Panel Disadvantages:

Some shower panel designs do not allow you to change the showerhead – some designs have fixed showerheads. This means you cannot change the showerhead if you want to.

Shower System Advantages:

They are more flexible in terms of design – Shower systems can be installed on any kind of bathrooms with any design. These are not held together in one single panel. They can be attached to different bathroom surfaces as you wish.

They give bathrooms a classic look – Shower systems provide classic looks to any kind of bathroom. Their designs are very simple and can easily blend in both modern and traditional bathrooms.

Most of them allow you to change the showerheads – the showerheads for this kind of shower can be changed and detached easily. If you wish to have a different one after the old one has rusted and such, you can just buy a new one and put that in place of the old one.

Shower System Disadvantages:

They sometimes take a long time to install – Shower systems often need to be installed piece by piece on your bathroom wall. This will require removing bathroom tiles, and putting them back again once the system is installed. This can also damage your bathroom wall if the contractor that you hired is not very good.

They often require a specialized tool or expert plumber to install – Unlike shower panels, most shower systems require you to get an expert plumber before you can have them in your bathroom. The cost of doing it yourself and having some fix your mistakes later is larger than getting it done right the first time with a good plumber or contractor.

3 Bathroom Updates to Do This Weekend

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Want to know some of the bathroom updates you can do on weekends? Refresh your bathroom with these affordable makeover ideas. Read on!

Fresh Coat of Paint
Painting is an easy and affordable way to really spruce up any room. With the right color schemes and a little bit of time, you can make a bathroom look like a completely different space. Choose a lighter color to liven up a space or a more neutral tone for a clean feel. You can also add texture to walls and adapt the color to meet any existing decor. The best part about painting is that you can always choose a different color if things do not go exactly as planned, so experiment with different options and have fun! Source: DoItYourself

Custom Lighting
Another way to instantly add personality to your bathroom is with lighting. Most bathrooms come with fairly standard lighting around the mirror and a standard overhead light. There is no hard design rule that says these have to stay, so look at lighting that works for you. A pendant light overhead, or even a small chandelier can work, if that is your style.

Vanity lights around your mirror should fit how you use the space. If you apply your makeup here, make certain that you have clear and true lighting. Vanity lights can face upwards or downwards, so think about what works during your install- upwards is softer, and may cast more shadows. Downwards is brighter, and may work better for everyday use. Source: SaddleTreeHomes

Artful Organization
Cover all the walls with art, gallery-style, and you’ll change the whole feel of the room. This bathroom design has frames hung on already textured walls for an extra layer of style. The result is super cozy. Source: ApartmentTherapy

Fresh Fixtures
Do you find yourself constantly scrubbing your sink faucet, only to find that it’s still dirty after the next use? This may be a good indicator that it’s time for an upgrade. Why not nix your classic silver faucet and go with a polished brass instead?

A simple way to revamp your bath is to buy a new shower curtain. Find one with a bold pattern to instantly spruce up your space! Source: LaurelAndWolf

Fabulous Flooring
Since the space is small, the cost of replacing the flooring is budget-friendly. Our designers will help you find the perfect flooring for you bathroom, and will install quickly as well. Choose an updated tile, or hardwood, or go for something bold in your small space.

Is there a project in your home you want to tackle, but just don’t know where to start? Contact us to put together a short timeline, a weekend or just a couple of days, to help you achieve that ‘honey-do’ list you’ve been putting off! Source: KruperFlooring

May 2017 Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver Statistics Package with Full Charts & Graphs

Market activity picks up in May

Home buyer activity returned to near record levels across the Metro Vancouver housing market in May.

Residential property sales in the region totalled 4,364 in May 2017, a decrease of 8.5 per cent from the 4,769 sales in May 2016, an all-time record, and an increase of 22.8 per cent compared to April 2017 when 3,553 homes sold.

Last month’s sales were 23.7 per cent above the 10-year May sales average and is the third-highest selling May on record.

“Demand for condominiums and townhomes is driving today’s activity,” Jill Oudil, Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) president said. “First-time buyers and people looking to downsize from their single-family homes are both competing for these two types of housing.”

New listings for detached, attached and apartment properties in Metro Vancouver totalled 6,044 in May 2017. This represents a 3.9 per cent decrease compared to the 6,289 units listed in May 2016 and a 23.2 per cent increase compared to April 2017 when 4,907 homes were listed.

The month-over-month increase in new listings was led by detached homes at 27.1 per cent, followed by apartments at 22.7 per cent and townhomes at 14.1 per cent.

“Home buyers are beginning to have more selection to choose from in the detached market, but the number of condominiums for sale continues to decline,” Oudil said.

The sales-to-active listings ratio across all residential categories is 53.4 per cent. By property type, the ratio is 31 per cent for detached homes, 76.1 per cent for townhomes, and 94.6 per cent for condominiums.

Generally, analysts say that downward pressure on home prices occurs when the ratio dips below the 12 per cent mark for a sustained period, while home prices often experience upward pressure when it surpasses 20 per cent over several months.

“While sales are inching closer to the record-breaking pace of 2016, the market itself looks different. Sales last year were driven by demand for single-family homes. This year, it’s clear that townhomes and condominiums are leading the way,” said Oudil. “It’s important to work with your local REALTOR® to understand the different factors affecting the market today.”
